Digital Archiving and Restoration

Judicious digital processing can achieve astonishing results when it comes to restoring old, noisy recordings. If you have artifact-laden media which you would like to restore and render listenable again, please contact me.

By using digital plugins, a variety of artifacts including noise, hiss, hum, crackles and pops can, at the very least, be dramatically reduced if not totally eliminated from most recordings. Once restored, the cleaned audio can be burned to compact disc for archiving and preservation. These tools can also be used to clean up unbalanced, quiet, noisy, or other less-than-ideal live recordings.

Do you have old cassettes or DAT tapes which you would like to transfer to CD? This service is also provided, with or without additional noise reduction processing. DAT tapes are transferred digitally direct to Pro Tools, where they are assembled and then exported to BIAS Peak Pro 4 for CD burning. Analog cassette tapes are fed into the computer via an Apogee Rosetta 200 A/D converter, processed for noise removal (if requested) and then burned to CD or recorded to DAT at the client's request. Unfortunately, recordings on vinyl records, mini-disc, and compact flash media cannot be accommodated at this time unless the client can provide suitable playback devices for these types of media.
